We make all our canine customer’s food to order and we price it according to the amount of food we supply. How much food we supply depends, of course, on a variety of factors - the most important of which is the dog’s weight.
We work on the basis that the average dog should eat about 2% of its body weight in food every day. Some owners want their dogs to put on weight, others want them to lose weight, so we adjust the volume of food accordingly. Once you have placed your order, by the way, we will ask you supplementary questions about your dog and his or her lifestyle. This may raise other issues that could affect the amount of food we recommend. For instance, if your dog is taking a lot of exercise or pregnant we might suggest different volumes of food.
Just call or email us and we will adjust the amount of food for your next order. If your dog is losing weight we will suggest that you feed him or her more, and we will bring the next order forward so that you don’t run out.
Can I set up a regular monthly order?
We are happy to arrange a regular monthly order for you. All you have to do is email or call us and we will do the rest. You can always adjust (or cancel) the order any time you want. And we will always give you plenty of warning before we send anything to you to make sure you are expecting delivery.
Can I order a sample of your food?
It isn’t economic to send a small sample because of the packaging and shipping costs. However, you could order one of our Gift Hampers, which contain nine packets of our food – three chicken, three beef and three lamb – as well as bones, biscuits and treats.
How is Honey’s food kept cold in transit?
We adopt exactly the same strategy as upmarket butchers that send their meat direct to customers. The ingredients are already chilled before we start. As soon as each dog’s food has been prepared it is put back into our cold room. At the end of the working day – just before the courier firm arrives – it is packed into insulated boxes with ice packs. It is then delivered overnight to our customers. Incidentally, we use recyclable insulated boxes that keep the food fresh for up to 48 hours.
We are now able to offer delivery most days by arrangement. Please remember we make all our food to order and send it to you fresh. There is usually a few days gap between when you place your order and when we can deliver although if you have an emergency situation we will always try to help out.
What time will the courier arrive?
You can opt for delivery between 9am and 4.30pm or for an extra charge for between 9am and 12 midday.
What if I can’t be home when you are delivering?
In case it is difficult for you to commit to being home on the day your food is booked to arrive we ask you to supply us with further instructions. For example, you might tell us to leave it in your garden shed or garage. Another option is to have it delivered somewhere nearby. One of our customers always has it sent to his local pub, another to the home of her retired mother, a third to a nearby corner shop. Ideally it should be put straight into a fridge or freezer but for a few hours somewhere reasonably cool will do it no harm.
Are there any weight limits on my delivery?
Our charges cover all but the largest of deliveries. The price we quote (from £10 to include overnight delivery, insulated box and freezer packs) is good for up to 25kg. This is considerably more than even a large dog would eat every month. If the weight of the box is, for any reason, over 25kg we will contact you to discuss the options.
