10 excellent reasons to choose Honey’s
3. The Honey’s Healthcare Team
Diet can make a huge difference to health. Certain canine health conditions require certain diets. For example, puppies and senior dogs have special requirements. The Honey’s Healthcare Team (which includes vets and vet nurses) is here to help. It is one of the reasons why so many vets recommend Honey’s. The service is free.
4. 100% certified organic, free range and wild ingredients
We only use the best and freshest ingredients that would, if they weren’t becoming dog food, be 100% suitable for human consumption. This is important not just for ethical reasons but because high quality ingredients contain much higher nutritional values. Our meat is all certified organic, wild or free range.
6. The food is complete
Our food meets all the most vigorous nutritional guidelines as set out by the European Pet Food Industry Federation (FEDIAF), the Pet Food Manufacturers Association (PFMA) and the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO). We achieve this without adding any supplements.
7. We invest in scientific research
We’ve contributed to the growing scientific evidence that species appropriate (aka raw) feeding is the optimum diet for dogs by investing in major research. Please ask for copies of our research paper: ‘Raw Proof: The results of a 24-month research programme into a species-appropriate diet for dogs’, which was first presented to Fellows of the Raw Feeding Veterinary Society.
8. We campaign for better farm animal welfare
We visit all our producers regularly to make sure that they meet our exacting farm animal welfare standards (which we publish). We donate 1% of sales to Compassion in World Farming. Incidentally, we never turn away any good canine cause, that approaches us. We have donated over £1.5m to charities in the last 10 years.
9. Our environmental policy
We work hard to minimise our impact on the environment. We have achieved ISO 14001 (which is awarded to companies with high environmental standards). Our packaging is 100% recyclable. Honey’s is Carbon Neutral and we believe we have the most environmentally friendly packaging for raw dog food in the UK. We are members of 1% for the Planet and our founder is a trustee of the Rainforest Trust. We comply with ISO 26000 on sustainability.
10. We are a small, family business
We are a small, family business (so small that Jonathan – who started Honey’s – is happy to give you his personal email in case he can help with anything) and we believe in traditional service. Honey’s has no sales function and no sales staff. We never try to persuade anyone to buy our food. When you talk to our team they are speaking from the heart.
Remember, not all raw dog food is equal
The founder of the Raw Feeding Veterinary Society recently said:
“The ideal raw food diet is varied, uses high quality ingredients and is properly formulated to make sure it includes all the necessary nutrition. One concern is intensively farmed meat, which may contain higher levels of antibiotics and other harmful chemicals. Another worry is formulations that contain too much or too little of certain ingredients e.g. rice or bone. A surprisingly high percentage of raw food diets (as differentiated from raw food meals, most of which are not ‘balanced and complete’ on their own) may not be nutritionally adequate. Variety, again, is key to providing all required nutrients appropriately.”
You can be confident that Honey’s is made from the finest quality ingredients and is 100% complete.
Full money-back guarantee
We are proud to say that almost all our customers come to us by word of mouth.

It costs much less than you might expect to feed your dog with Honey’s.
We keep the cost down by dealing direct with our customers (so no profit to retailers or wholesalers), by buying (wherever possible) direct from farmers and by not advertising.
We are never knowingly undersold and will refund the difference if you find you could have purchased the same quality of ingredients in a supermarket or butcher for less.
A few words from our founder
I began making raw dog food for other people by accident. In 2000 or 2001, our vet suggested in passing that our dogs would be healthier on a raw food diet and after a certain amount of trepidation I switched them. We had about 8 or 9 dogs in residence at the time and I began making all their food – and food for some of our neighbour’s dogs – myself.
I was earning my living partly as a journalist and partly as an organic farmer and so I had access to plenty of ingredients. We had sheep, cattle, chickens, goats and maybe a couple of dozen pigs on the farm and so the dogs were getting a good mix of proteins. However, I misjudged the age of some of those pigs, and it turned out they were not practicing safe sex and before we knew it, we had around 100 piglets. I fell in love with them. They were excellent company and also turned out to be brilliant at football although I could never get them to understand the offside rule.
Anyway, until the advent of my expanded herd of pigs I had been perfectly happy to wring a chicken’s neck or drop a pig or lamb down to our local butcher to be slaughtered. More or less overnight, I found I no longer wanted to eat or prepare meat. This would have been in 2007.
Anyway, I looked for a raw dog food company that offered food made from high welfare meat and when I couldn’t find one, I started my own. I was largely motivated by a desire not to spend my evenings up to my elbows in raw liver and tripe.
Honey’s is a business, of course, but we don’t have any world domination plans. We like being able to spend time talking to our customers and I like the fact that all our customers have my email address in case I can help with anything. We are a family business, too, and 20% of the shares are held for the team members.
